Monthly Theme – Follow Jesus, we are thankful for Jesus

Key Verse:“’Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will make you fishers of men’” (Mark 1:17)

Our hope is for our kids to believe that: Jesus knows all about us

Read:
(Open the bible and read to your child John 1:43-51) When Jesus saw Philip he told him to “follow me”. Philip decided to join Jesus but also wanted to run and share the good news to Nathaniel. He told Nathaniel that Jesus was the messiah and described Jesus in earthly terms. “We have found the messiah, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph”. Now Nathaniel had doubts, especially since Nazareth was not a good place. However, Philip convinced Nathaniel to see for himself. Upon meeting Jesus Nathaniel’s doubts were lifted, Jesus not only told Nathaniel something that a stranger could not know (Jesus knew his character), but Jesus also shared facts about where Philip had found Nathaniel. At the point Nathaniel knew that Jesus was the messiah. Jesus knows all about us!

Share:
(This is an opportunity for you to ask some questions and to share your thoughts) Parents play “What do you know about me?” with your children. Ask your children to tell what they know about where you lived growing up, what your favorite hobby is, or something else specifically about you. When your children have shared what they know, fill in the blanks. Then have your children ask you a question or two. Maybe they’ll ask what you know about how they like to spend their free time or what they want to be when they grow up. End the game by talking about how it makes you feel to know that Jesus knows every single thing there is to know about you.

Activity/Challenge for Families:
Privacy is a major issue in most families. Do you have private spaces where you live, a place where you can keep your things and nobody will look? What if everyone in your family knew exactly what was in your private space? Would that make you happy? Sad? Incredibly afraid? Give everyone a piece of paper and a pencil. Have everyone write the names of all your family members on their pieces of paper. Next to the names, write what you think that person has in his or her private space. DO NOT GO LOOK – JUST GUESS! Then read your lists to each other, and confirm whether or not the guesses were correct.
