Monthly Theme – Jesus Cares For Us

Key Verse:“He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy” (Titus 3:5a)

Our hope is for our kids to believe that: Jesus Forgives Us

Read:
(Open the bible and read to your child Mark 2:1-12) What a scene this must have been! Jesus was preaching in a home and the crowd was intense. So there was a paralyzed man who couldn’t get in because of the crowds. So his friends decided to lower him down from the roof! They must have had faith that Jesus could heal him. When Jesus saw the man he said your sins are forgiven because of his faith. The paralytic did not have to do anything for his sins to be forgiven, he just simply had faith in Jesus. Those who did not believe that Jesus was the messiah began to question him on how he can forgive sins. To show He had power and authority Jesus healed the paralyzed man. The order Jesus choose demonstrates which is more important, the forgiveness of sins.

Share:
(This is an opportunity for you to ask some questions and to share your thoughts) Parents: Talk about a time someone in your family needed forgiveness from someone else in your family. Talk about how the conflict was resolved. If it hasn’t been resolved, talk about what needs to be done to bring about forgiveness in the situation. Then discuss how we can know when we need to ask God to forgive us. What does it mean to you that God is a forgiven God? What kinds of things should we ask forgiveness for? What do you need to ask for forgiveness for this week?

Activity/Challenge for Families:
This week while you are all together as a family (maybe on the way to school, church, at the dinner table, etc) discuss your fears. What scares you the most? What are you afraid of? Make sure everyone gets a chance to share. When you are done sharing choose ways to go to Jesus with your fears. Ideas include: have someone you trust pray with you, asking Jesus to help you overcome your fear, read a 1 John 1:9 every time you’re afraid, or write all your fears in a journal, then write down next to the fears how Jesus helps you.
