Our hope is for our kids to believe that: We can honor Jesus

(Open the bible and read to your child Mark 11:1-11) Jesus was making his way to Jerusalem where many of the Jews were. He had become popular because of his teachings and miracles. Upon his entry all the people were praising Him and giving Him honor. This is because Jesus came as a savior to all. Not only was he a savior but he was also a king, and people generally give kings honor. Jesus however was no ordinary king, he was a king that would soon humble himself and die for all of us. It is for this very reason that we honor Jesus and give Him our praise!

(This is an opportunity for you to ask some questions and to share your thoughts) Parents: Talk with your kids about someone who’s a hero to you, and why. Explain how you show that person what he or she means to you. Then encourage your children to think of people they might consider heroes – and talk about ways they could show their heroes how much they admire and respect them. Finally, talk about how Jesus is our ultimate hero. Remind your children that, through our words and actions, we need to show Jesus how much He means to us.

Activity/Challenge for Families:
Go on a bike ride as a family (if you are lucky enough go horseback riding). As you ride think about how the people in Jerusalem honored Jesus by throwing down their coats and palm branches before Him. When you’ve finished your ride, talk about different ways you and your family can honor Jesus today.
