Monthly Theme –He Has Risen!

Key Verse: “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?’” (John 11:25-26)

Our hope is for our kids to know that: Faith is believing in Jesus even though we can’t see Him

(Open the bible and read to your child John 20:19-31) It can be difficult to believe in Jesus when we haven’t seen Him face to face. It was even difficult in the days that Jesus lived. After Jesus died, reports of his resurrection began to spread from the women who visited the empty tomb. Thomas found it very difficult to believe and wanted proof. He wanted to see the hands of Jesus to see if he had holes in them from being nailed to the cross. So while they were in the upper room meeting together Jesus appeared to Thomas and showed him his hands. At that point Thomas says the words, “My Lord and My God!” We can have faith that Jesus exists because of the many gospel accounts and witnesses who testified to his death, burial, and resurrection.  Jesus says, “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

(This is an opportunity for you to ask some questions and to share your thoughts) Parents: As you’re driving in the car somewhere with your family play this game. Think of things you’re sure will happen each day. For each thing you think of, have your child think of something he or she believes about God. For example, you might say that the sun will set tonight or that you will go to work tomorrow. Your child might say, “God loves me” or “Jesus lives in heaven”. Talk about the certainty of each statement and what it means to have faith in God.

Activity/Challenge for Families:
It is important that we continually encourage our faith. Choose a way you’ll grow in your faith this week: 1) write a letter to Jesus, telling him any doubts you have about him 2) Talk to a Christian friend about what you believe in Jesus 3) Share about your faith with a non Christian friend. For extra impact, invite him or her to church next week.
