Monthly Theme –He Has Risen!

Key Verse: “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?’” (John 11:25-26)

Our hope is for our kids to believe that: Trusting in God makes us courageous

(Open the bible and read to your child Acts 4:5-14) Peter and John were standing before a group of religious leaders who where called the Sanhedrin. The Sanhedrin was the ruling body of the Jews and they were angry with Peter and John. You can read in Acts 3:1-10 that Peter and John healed a disabled man. The Sanhedrin knew that only God could heal and here they had Peter and John saying they healed the man with the power of Jesus! If you remember the Jewish leaders didn’t believe that Jesus was the son of God and knew He was killed. Therefore they looked to punish Peter and John because of this. However, Peter spoke up boldly and said that salvation is only through Jesus. All of the Sanhedrin’s beliefs and actions were insufficient, and if they continued to deny Jesus no other power was available to them. The leaders were amazed at Peter’s knowledge and courage, especially since he was not a scholar like many of them. We can be bold and courageous when we trust God!

(This is an opportunity for you to ask some questions and to share your thoughts) Parents: Share a time you had to be brave in the midst of a scary situation. Ask your kids to share their own version of a time they were brave – maybe it was their first day of school or when they got lost at the mall. Talk about how trusting in God can make us courageous even when we’re facing something that normally would be completely terrifying. Then think about some things coming up that members your family will need courage for. Pray together for courage.

Activity/Challenge for Families:
This week decide as a family that you will trust God for courage as you: 1) work to be nice to someone who isn’t usually nice to you 2)tell a non-Christian family member or friend about Jesus 3) ask God to show you the life he wants you to live.
