May Theme – Spring into Action!

Key Verse: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20)

Our hope is for our kids to know that: God wants us to tell everyone about Jesus

(Open the bible and read to your child Acts 10:1-44) In this story we see that Jews did not enter the homes or eat with non-Jews. They also did not believe that a non Jew could be accepted by God. This all changed when Peter had a dream showing him that God has made everyone and that he loves and accepts all of us. So when he went to the house of Cornelius and stepped inside, everyone was shocked. However, as Peter began to share the story of Christ to Cornelius and his household, they all believed. Peter took a risk in following God’s leading to reach out to Cornelius and his family, and when he returned to Jerusalem he had to explain why to the other Jews. Peter explained that God directed him to eat with Cornelius and that we are to accept non Jews. It was then that the Jews opened their hearts to the fact that Jesus loves all.

(This is an opportunity for you to ask some questions and to share your thoughts) Parents: Talk about a time you befriended someone you thought you wouldn’t like. Encourage your kids to think about someone they might need to pay more attention to or reach out to. Then talk about who we’re called to love and share the good news about Jesus with. Discuss ways your family can reach out to those in your neighborhood who seem different from you.

Activity/Challenge for Families:
This week find a family that may be a neighbor or friend that you know is not a Christian. Decided to have dinner with them and share in a time of fellowship. Do not force the conversation into a spiritual one unless it is lead in that direction. The main point is for your family to see that God loves everyone, and we are to fellowship with them. After the dinner pray as a family for guidance on how you can continue to build that relationship with them which will naturally lead them to Christ.
