Let’s Celebrate

Key Verse: “For to us a child is born, the Prince of Peace”

(Isaiah 9:6)

Our hope is for our kids to know that: Repenting prepares us for Jesus

(Open the bible and read to your child Luke 3:7-18) John had a message of repentance. He was telling people about Jesus, the coming messiah, and wanted them to repent. Some came just so people would say how good they were because they were getting baptized. Others thought they had an advantage for being descendants of Abraham, but John told them the only thing that is important is that they receive Jesus Christ as Messiah. People in the crowds began to say that John was the Messiah. John could have easily taken the glory, but did not.

(This is an opportunity for you to ask some questions and to share your thoughts) Parents: Talk about a need to change something about the way you act or think. Explain why you need to make that change and what you plan to do to follow through on it. Then encourage your children to think of an area in their lives where they need to make a change as well. Maybe it’s a change in attitude or a change in how they treat someone. Remind your kids that by repenting and changing how we think or act, we are preparing for Jesus.

Activity/Challenge for Families:
When we confess our sins, God removes them from our lives, cleaning our hearts an making room for Jesus. Make room for each gift you receive this year by donating something you already have to a local charity. As you make room for new things in your home, thank God for making room in your heart for Jesus.
