Harvest the Wise

Key Verse: “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him” (James 1:5)

Our hope is for our kids to know that: We become wise from following God’s Word

Read:
(Open the bible and read to your child 1 Kings 11:1-13) When David was king, he made preparations for a temple to be built, and he commissioned his son Solomon to make sure that it happened. Once it was built, Solomon dedicated it to the Lord, but then he began to make mistakes. He took many wives and concubines, many of whom worshiped false Gods. Eventually these wives lead him astray, and Solomon began to worship other Gods himself. He lost his devotion to God, and soon found himself being devoted to these false Gods. This decision of leaving a God who will never leave you resulted in the Kingdom being torn away from Solomon’s son.

Share:
(This is an opportunity for you to ask some questions and to share your thoughts) Parents: Talk about something you’re really devoted to. Maybe you’re passionate about your job and spend a lot of time working at it. Or maybe you have a hobby that you know everything about and that takes up your time and attention. Then ask you kids to think about something they’re devoted to, such as a sport of computer game. Encourage your kids to think about what it would be like if they spent the same amount of time and attention on God. Talk about ways your family could be more focused on God. Praying together, serving others, and going to church are all possible activities that could help.

Activity/Challenge for Families: This week suggest one activity each day that would focus your family’s attention on God. Write these daily activities on a calendar, and keep them like you would a doctor or dentist appointment.
