Isaac is Born

Our hope is for our kids to: Thank God for his gifts

Key verse:
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: rejoice!”
(Philippians 4:4)

(Open the bible and read to your child Gen 21:1-6) It has been twenty-five years since God promised Abraham and Sarah they would have a son. Well the time has finally arrived for Isaac to be born. At his birth Sarah was very pleased and rejoiced! In fact, the name Isaac means, “ he laughs” Having kids was certainly a joyous occasion, but to have kids at this age was certainly a laughing matter! Abraham was 100 and Sarah was 90. God’s promise had come through like always!

Think about a gift that gave you immense joy. Tell your kids about that gift and your experience in receiving it. Then ask them to tell about the greatest gift they’ve ever received. What made it great? What about receiving great gifts reminds you of receiving God’s gifts? Discuss what you can do to show God your joy and thanks for his gifts.

Activity/Challenge for Families:
This week, spend time laughing together. Perform a not-ready for-prime-time family comedy show. Tell jokes. Do as much as you can to laugh and express joy together. Then talk about how God brings you joy.
