Joyful June

Key Verse: “For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’”
(Jeremiah 29:11)

Our hope is for our kids to: Hope in God’s plans

Read:
(Open the bible and read to your child 1 Samuel 1:1-28) In the times of the Old Testament, it was embarrassing and disgraceful to not be able to have children. Hannah felt this embarrassment and not even her husband could comfort her. She made a promise to God that if He blessed her with a child she would give him fully to the service of the Lord. When Samuel was born Hannah lived up to her vow. As soon as Samuel was old enough to live without his mother (sometime after he was about 3 years old), she took him to Eli at the tabernacle and gave him to service of the Lord.

Share:
(This is an opportunity for you to ask some questions and to share your thoughts) Parents: Describe a time you felt sad and talked to God about the situation. Maybe you lost a job, a family pet, or even a close friend. Talk to your children about the sadness you felt and the things you said to God about the situation. Ask your children to share anything they’re sad about right now. Then as a family, turn to God in prayer about the things family members shared.

Activity/Challenge for Families:
Make a chart of your family’s ups and downs. Discuss the life chart you made today in class, and use the same methods to chart the ups and downs that have happened to your family. Be sure to talk about how God has been there to help your family through everything.
